Rep. Dan Griffey speaks on his bill to extend comprehensive plan deadlines for counties

Ahead of final passage on the House floor, Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, urges support for House Bill 2296, his legislation to provide 10 counties and the cities within them a six-month extension on the deadline to review and revise their state required comprehensive plans. Clallam, Clark, Island, Jefferson, Lewis, Mason, San Juan, Skagit, Thurston, and Whatcom counties are the last of the counties in Washington that need the deadline extension to allow more time to meet new Climate Change and Resiliency and other requirements recently passed by the Legislature and to receive necessary grants from the Department of Commerce. Comprehensive Plans, and their periodic updates, are required under the Growth Management Act. They are the centerpiece of local planning efforts that create a series of goals, objectives, policies, actions, and standards meant to guide local elected officials in their day to day decision-making. The bill passed the House on a 97-1 vote.
