WATCH: Rep Dan Griffey bill targets ‘industrious monsters’ deadly making counterfeit pills

Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, speaks on House Bill 1209 – the bipartisan bill he is cosponsoring with Rep. Mari Leavitt, D-University Place, to crack down on drug traffickers using pill presses to make deadly counterfeit pills laced with Fentanyl. The fake pills have flooded the local black market and are blamed for soaring overdoses in Washington state – something Griffey knows first hand as a recently retired firefighter and from personal tragedy. The bill is named in honor of Tyler Lee Yates, the 31 year old son of a close friend and fellow firefighter, Tyler died in January 2022 after taking a Fentanyl-laced fake pill he believed was a legitimate Percocet.
