Rep. Dan Griffey to serve as assistant ranking member on Community Safety, Justice and Reentry Committee
State Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, has been selected assistant ranking member on the re-named House Community Safety, Justice and Reentry Committee.
The committee considers issues related to the criminal legal system, including policing, crime prevention, impaired driving, and bills related to sentencing, prisons, rehabilitation, reentry, and the registration and civil commitment of sex offenders.
Griffey's leadership role on the committee means he'll help resolve some of the region's biggest public safety issues.
“It is vital we work together in the upcoming session to improve public safety, including fixing vehicular pursuit laws so law enforcement has the tools they need to serve and protect their communities,” said Griffey. “We also need to address the growing problems of fentanyl and organized retail theft. In my role as assistant ranking member of the Community Safety, Justice and Reentry Committee, I'll work to ensure all voices are heard on these and other crucial public safety issues.”
Griffey will also continue to serve on the House Local Government Committee and the House Transportation Committee.
The House Local Government Committee considers bills related to local governments, such as cities and counties, including local taxes; comprehensive planning; zoning, building and energy codes, as well as local government requirements for open meetings and public records.
The House Transportation Committee considers multimodal transportation services and infrastructure for the entire state, including budgets, various transportation agencies, and the intersection of transportation with environmental and safety policy.
The 105-day legislative session begins on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023.
