Griffey to serve as lead Republican on House Local Government Committee

Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, was selected by House Republican Leadership to serve as the ranking Republican on the House Local Government Committee.

Griffey previously served as the assistant ranking member on the committee under Rep. David Taylor, R-Moxee, who served as the ranking Republican until being appointed to serve as the ranking Republican on the House Environment Committee.

Ranking members are responsible for working with chairs on committee agendas and advising their caucus on issues and legislation before the committee.

“I'm excited to take on this new leadership role and am humbled by the confidence my leadership team has placed in me to lead my fellow Republicans on matters before the committee,” said Griffey. “Every piece of legislation making its way through the legislative process means something to someone. Many of the bills we consider in Local Government have a great impact on the daily operations and functions of our communities. I will continue to bring the voices of Mason, Kitsap and Thurston counties to the table.”

The committee considers issues relating to the operations and financing of counties, cities, and some special districts.

Griffey has had three bills before the committee so far this session, all pertaining to fire district operations.

Griffey, a lieutenant firefighter, joined the state House of Representatives in 2015. This is his second term.
