Griffey begins second term in state House, retains leadership role

Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, was sworn in Monday to begin his second term serving in the state House of Representatives. Griffey is also entering his second term as assistant whip for the House Republican Caucus.

“I'm incredibly honored and humbled to have been appointed once again to serve as the assistant whip for my Republican colleagues. It's even more humbling to know people have put their confidence in me for another term to serve as their voice in the state Legislature,” said Griffey. “It's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work for the wonderful people in this great state.”

Assistant whips assist the whip in maintaining decorum during caucus meetings and ensuring caucus activities are carried out in an orderly fashion. The newly appointed whip for the caucus is Rep. Dave Hayes, R-Camano Island.

Griffey will serve on three House committees during session — Local Government, Early Learning and Human Services, and Public Safety. He is the assistant ranking Republican on the House Local Government Committee.

Griffey said he's looking forward to serving on the House Public Safety Committee for another session.

“There's nothing more basic to a better quality of life than feeling safe in your home and community. It's a privilege to work on solutions that touch so many lives throughout our state,” he said.

The 2017 legislative session began Jan. 9 and is scheduled to last 105 days.
