The state House of Representatives Friday honored the men and women of the National Guard. The story from John Sattgast in Olympia.
Sattgast: As Washington National Guard members looked on from the chamber gallery, the House passed a resolution commending the Guard and its service to the state.
Newly-elected freshman legislator, Representative Dan Griffey of Allyn, was among those who spoke. A Lieutenant Firefighter in Mason County, Griffey talked about working shoulder-to-shoulder with the National Guard during times of crisis and disaster.
Griffey: “As a professional firefighter, I stand next to them, trying to protect homes desperately. We cry together when we couldn't make it happen. We'd sandbag communities. Sometimes we win. Sometimes we lose. But we try. In the fire service, if we can't handle it, we can call the Washington State National Guard. And I thank all of you for that.”
Sattgast: 35th District Republican State Representative Dan Griffey, who saluted the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women of the National Guard. The resolution was approved unanimously.
